Bhagirath (68) a retired Government officer of the state Government of Rajasthan, India, lives in the tribal based city of Udaipur, Bhagirath basically works for making Tribal peoples and other rural based folks for their deprived human rights’ education, animation and making these folks know about the real democracy in rural India. He strongly believes that the real democracy in India especially in the tribal regions of India such as Rajasthan and North Indian tribal dominated states and regios, is yet to come and until then these folks are under second slavery and the first was under British India.
Bhagirath also edits prints and publishes a Hindi weekly called Parivartan prabhakar, to publicize his ideas for the animation and education of these folks from his Udaipur based office an important tourist and tribal city from historic times in Rajasthan. The topics for the Human rights issues published in the Parivartan Prabhakar the Hindi weekly are multifarious like tribal origin, history, environment, culture, tribal values, freedom from the slavery of upper castes, religion, customary laws, land issues, water, tribal habitats, tribal ethnicity, reservation in the educational institutions and the government offices of employment etc.
Bhagirath has addressed some 4000 meetings and seminars all over India and authored 25 books out of which two are awarded by the Government of India. He comes from a Merchant class family of the Rajasthani Marwaris whose standard of living is high but does not restrict him for the comfortable living at standard of living is high but does not restrict him for the comfortable living at this age and place but goes around in the country with the missionary zeal in the services for the poor, needy and marginalized in the country. He believes that the tribal and other general peoples’ awareness and educational movement of the Tribal and other peoples human rights.
